Cookies & storage
What we keep on your device — and why there's no banner.
The short version
This app only stores what it needs to sign you in and to remember the settings you choose. There are no analytics, advertising or third-party tracking cookies. Under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), storage that is strictly necessary for a service you asked for — or that only remembers your appearance preferences — is exempt from the consent requirement. So there is no cookie banner to click through.
What we store, and why
- Sign-in session (
sb-…cookies) — keeps you logged in as you move between pages. Strictly necessary; the ICO gives staying-logged-in as a textbook example. Cleared when you sign out. - "Keep me signed in" (
ecet-remember-me) — records the login choice you made on the sign-in screen. Strictly necessary — it records a selection you made. - Appearance & layout preferences(theme, accent colour, background, density, contrast, motion, navigation style) — kept in your browser's local storage so the app looks the way you set it. Covered by the PECR "appearance" exemption; change or reset any of them any time in Profile → appearance.
- Small UI memories — e.g. which one-off setup tips you've dismissed, and a reception kiosk's unlocked state on that device. Functional only; no personal profile is built.
PECR (and our use of it) treats anything stored on your device the same way — so this covers both cookies and the app's local storage.
What we don't do
- No advertising or marketing cookies.
- No third-party analytics that profile you.
- No cross-site trackers or fingerprinting.
The 2025 Data (Use and Access) Act added a consent exemption for basic analytics used only to improve a service — we don't use analytics at all, so it doesn't arise here. (PECR breaches can now be fined up to £17.5m or 4% of global turnover, which is why we keep this surface deliberately minimal.)
Controlling what's stored
Sign out to clear your session. Reset appearance preferences in Profile → appearance. You can also clear cookies and site storage in your browser settings at any time — the app will simply ask you to sign in again and fall back to default appearance.
